SS White® – Pioneering Dentistry with Unmatched Innovation

At SS White®,  they’re proud to shape the landscape of dentistry every day through their groundbreaking advancements. With a rich corporate history that dates back to 1844. As a family-owned and operated U.S.-based business, they have become a global leader with over 175 years of experience and a worldwide distribution network.  SS White has achieved numerous milestones that have revolutionized the dental industry. In 1872, they introduced the first steel dental burs, offering a wide range of shapes including round, wheel, cone, and inverted cone. Continuing their commitment to excellence, they pioneered stoned dental burs in 1878, with cutting blades hand-stoned for enhanced sharpness. In 1880, they made another leap forward with the creation of ivory-handled hand instruments. The year 1882 witnessed the introduction of honed burs, which provided greater efficiency and cost-effectiveness compared to regular file-cut dental burs. In 1891, they unveiled the Revelation® bur, a groundbreaking innovation produced entirely by machinery, revolutionizing the manufacturing process. In 1947, they proudly introduced the first carbide bur to the dental profession, featuring a two-piece construction process that combined a carbide cutting head with a steel platform and shank. SS White’s commitment to dental excellence continued over the years with the introduction of carbide burs for composite preparations in 1969, amalgam preparation burs in 1977, and surgical length carbide burs in 1989. In 1990, SS White launched the Great White® restoration removal burs, providing rapid and precise removal of various dental materials. Additionally, they introduced sterile single-patient-use diamond burs in 1991, prioritizing patient safety and preventing cross-contamination. In 1999, SS Whtie Fissurotomy® carbide burs facilitated the early identification and treatment of hidden caries. The year 2001 marked the launch of Express Line® lab metal finishing burs, enabling faster metal finishing processes. We continued to innovate with Safe End finishing carbide burs in 2003 and Great White® Ultra carbide burs in 2004, ensuring fast and smooth crown preparations.

Today, SS White® stands as the largest dental manufacturing company globally, offering an extensive range of high-quality dental products. SS White’s portfolio includes carbide burs, diamond instruments, jazz polishers, kits, and accessories, smartburs II, endodontics, and orthodontics.
