With a legacy spanning 100 years, MRC (Myofunctional Research Co.) has pioneered groundbreaking advancements in the field of orthodontic and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) treatment. Driven by extensive research and a commitment to addressing the underlying causes of these conditions, MRC has revolutionized the way we approach oral health.  In 1989, MRC leveraged emerging computer-aided design (CAD) technology to develop its innovative products. This marked a significant milestone, as no intraoral dental appliances had utilized CAD technology at the time. The integration of CAD technology played a pivotal role in shaping MRC’s product development process. Since 1991, MRC’s products have been introduced to the dental and medical professions, starting in Australia and New Zealand. Overcoming regulatory hurdles, MRC obtained FDA approval for the USA and Europe in 1993, paving the way for widespread adoption and education. In subsequent years, MRC expanded its reach to Japan, South East Asia, and South America, and now operates in over 100 countries across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. MRC’s journey has been met with some challenges, as the acceptance of its concepts within the professions took longer than expected. However, through extensive research and educational efforts, MRC has overcome these barriers. Today, its products are recognized and utilized by professionals worldwide, transforming the lives of patients suffering from orthodontic and TMJ issues. At the heart of MRC’s success is a deep understanding of myofunctional issues and a commitment to advancing treatment techniques. Through rigorous research and clinical experience, MRC uncovered the underlying commonalities between TMJ dysfunction and malocclusion. This breakthrough led to the realization that a myofunctional approach to treatment was necessary, challenging widely-held beliefs about the causes of crowded teeth and jaw problems. With the aid of cutting-edge CAD design facilities at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and The Queensland Manufacturing Institute, MRC harnessed the power of technology to produce universal-size intraoral appliances. These appliances possess therapeutic characteristics that effectively influence oral musculature, enabling comprehensive myofunctional treatment for patients.
